Lively Issues Discussion & Potluck Returns March 18
What: LWVDC’s annual Lively Issues meeting is an opportunity for local citizens to help identify hot topics and issues of concern locally. All are invited (LWVDC membership not required) to enjoy the conversation and a meal. Bring your ideas and a dish to share.
When: Tuesday, March 18, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Where: Write On, Door County, 4210 Juddville Rd., Fish Creek.

Following the Lively Issues meeting, the LWVDC identifies topics for further study or action. Please contact program@lwvdoorcounty.org with questions.

November 20, 2024 - Annual Social at Hatch Distilling
We celebrated all our work with a special shout out to all the folks that helped with voter registration assistance/education and to our Observers for all their work and contributions that make the League Lens column in the Pulse possible.

October 2nd, 2024 - The Election Process in Wisconsin and in Door County
Door County Clerk Jill Lau presented on the workings of elections in Wisconsin including Door County and David Bell, LWVDC Speaker Bureau, went over a sample ballot for the upcoming election. Both presentations were very informative and we had great Q&A discussion!

September 5, 2024 - Changing Hearts and Minds on Reproductive Health and Rights
This was small-group workshop that used a model for advocacy based on the psychology of how humans change, focusing on empathy and human connection rather than changing someone else’s mind. The goal was to help us have better conversations about reproductive rights and other emotionally complex issues.

August 26 - 5th Annual Women’s Equality Day Car Parade honoring the movement leading up to the 19th Amendment being adopted as law on August 26, 1920.

June 5, 2024 - Words Matter: A Reflective Workshop - This reflective workshop is a follow up to the well-attended Words Matter event held February 2024. Held in conjunction with the “Are We Listening” by artist Rebecca Carlton.

May 16, 2024 - 2024 LWVDC Annual Meeting - With Keynote presentation on National Popular Vote | Interstate Compact by Debra Cronmiller, executive director, LWWWI and Dorothy Skye, chair, LWVWI. Keynote sponsored by LWVDC Eileen Bohn Fund.

May 1, 2024 - Community Partner Program at Third Avenue PlayWorks showing of Ms. Holmes and Ms. Watson - Apt. 2B. Audience helped raise $1,900 for LWV of Door County.

April 23, 2024 - The Big Stink: Manure Management and Water Health in Door County - Manure management is a complicated subject, especially given Door County's Dairy fragile karst substrate and the importance of water health.  We hope to make sense of the benefits and challenges of manure management through a presentation involving regulators, farmers and environmental experts. 

February 22, 2024 - Observer Corp Meeting - This meeting was held in conjunction with Peninsula Pulse Editor, Debra Fitzgerald. Debra will shared tips for fine tuning our listening and reporting skills. She will introduced a learning module entitled "Earn Your Press Pass," which she has secured through the Wisconsin Newspapers Association. This was an opportunity for us to get acquainted and to share our experiences. We also introduced the process of how things we learn through observing can lead to League advocacy.

February 8, 2024 - Words Matter: The Power of Language to Create a More Inclusive Door County - (Recording)

Our words have an incredible impact on the safety and belonging we create for others. A panel of community leaders spoke about inclusive language around race, mental health, disability, and LGBTQ+ identities. Participants had the opportunity to learn and ask questions in a safe space. This event aimed to empower the community with the tools to harness the power of words for a more unified and inclusive Door County.

January 25, 2024 - Lively Issues Potluck - The League of Women Voters of Door County held the annual Lively Issues meeting as an opportunity to identify issues important to our members. Members were asked to offer local issues and topics of concern. After discussing these in the context of our positions, we will recommend topics for further study or action. This traditional League activity begins the process of planning programs for the next League year. Good conversation, tasty food, and great people made for another memorable event.
December 14, 2023 - Round Table Social - League members and guests gathered for appetizers and toasted the holidays with trivia and good cheer!
November 18, 2023 - Everything to Know about Elections in Door County -
Door County Clerk, Jill Lau and Town of Egg Harbor Clerk, Pam Krauel presented “What You Always Wanted to Know About Voting/Elections in Door County” including preparation, printing and the distribution of ballots and supplies to municipal clerks, the management of voting equipment, security, measures to ensure the accuracy of tabulations, the statewide voter registration system (WisVote), and recent changes in laws and regulations.
October 2023- Lively Issues For Door County Seniors Workshops
Door County seniors were invited to help identify and discuss issues of concern to them at one of three workshops hosted throughout the county by the League of Women Voters of Door County and the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Door County. Top issues to emerge from the workshops will help inform future advocacy efforts by ADRC’s Unit on Aging and possible topics for further study, education, or action by the LWVDC.
October 2, 2023 - Legislative Town Hall (Recording)
All area legislators were invited to participate in this gathering were asked to share their legislative priorities. This event was hosted by LWV Appleton-Fox Cities and partnered with Leagues of Women Voters of Winnebago County, Greater Green Bay, and Door County.

Stacey Mohr-Johannsen, associate director at National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Wisconsin, presented what NAMI is and what is needed to start a local chapter in Door County. NAMI provides education and information to friends and family that need support in real time. Presentation Slides

LWVDC collaborated with Door County Knock to host leaders from the front lines of drug use and addiction in Door County during a community forum.
